Olive Oil - Palestine
Our Palestinian Organic, Fairtrade extra virgin olive oil is sourced through Canann Fairtrade in Jenin. It is a world first fairtrade olive oil, pressed from the fruit of ancient trees which have been tended by hand through generations of family farmers. This delicious oil is produced by small farming cooperatives within the Palestinian Fairtrade Association who harvest trees by hand every October sending the fresh olives to village presses within 24 hours.
We would like to apologize for any price increase in 2010, this is due to a very poor harvest. The Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee state that this harvest is the worst in 30 years. Not only have climatic conditions worked against the olive crop, with high winds in the Spring blowing off many of the tree blossoms, the situation is also compounded by the severe lack of access to olive groves. Farmers are unable to mitigate the worst effects of climate change by pruning, watering and otherwise tending their trees throughout the year. Please stay with us through this difficult time, your support is vital and very much appreciated,t hank you and enjoy this years brand new harvest.
